The Compost Connection
“Despite all our accomplishments, we owe our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.” – Paul Harvey
The Compost Connection exists to advocate for the importance of local soil, and to catalyse and empower communities with the skills and resources to regenerate them. Our aim is to significantly improve local food and community resilience in the face of future uncertainties, by creating healthy soil for food growing, and that is able to bounce back from drought and flooding.
We do this is through hands on, practical workshops, consultancy and training about soil health, composting methods, and creating resilient growing spaces.
We work in a way that is founded on our strong belief that humans are intrinsically connected to the soil. At a time where our education system and modern lifestyles often do not nurture this sense of connection, our work reminds people of this beautiful fact. To this end, we love to share the joy of soil, and the life within it, via hands on sessions – whether this is our popular wormery sessions for children, or our in-depth soil microscopy sessions that open up the incredible world beneath our feet.
Our purpose is soil and soil resilience.
“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life.
Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.” – Wendell Berry
